Backup Generator Services in Harrisburg, PA

What do you normally do when you experience a power outage? If you’re like many other homeowners, you may light candles or make your way through your home using a flashlight, assuming the batteries are working. You may also refrain from opening your refrigerator and freezer with the hope they stay cold enough to preserve their contents.

While those actions may not be too annoying if a power outage only lasts an hour or two, they can get old quickly if the outage continues for the better part of a day, several days or even longer. You may want to consider installing a home backup generator to prevent an extended outage from disrupting your life and lifestyle.

Benefits of Having a Whole-House Emergency Generator

Plenty of things can interrupt the power supply to your home. Natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes and severe thunderstorms can cause the power to go out, for example. Blown transformers and accidents can also disrupt your power supply.

When there’s a short- or long-term disruption to the power supply from your utility company, your home won’t be plunged into darkness if you have a whole-house emergency generator. An automatic backup generator sits outside your residence. The unit will be connected to a transfer switch located inside your home, making it easy for you to re-establish a power supply to your home if the power from your utility company gets cut off for any reason.

In addition to illuminating your home during a power outage, the backup generators we install in the greater Harrisburg area and throughout Central PA provide the following benefits:

Increased safety and security

ccording to the American Red Cross, whole-house backup generators are safer than portable alternatives. A whole-house backup generator can keep your home secure during an outage because it will supply your security system with ample power.

Peace of mind

Many generators allow for remote access, meaning you can operate them when you’re away from home even when there’s a power outage. This capability can help you avoid frozen or busted pipes if the power goes out when it’s freezing outside. If you live with someone who relies on an electric medical device, you’ll rest easy knowing the person’s medical equipment will still work during an outage if you have a whole-house backup generator.

FAQs

Old fuse panels like push-o-matics along with Federal Pacific Electric Stab-lok, Zinsco, and Sylvania panels are not to code and should be replaced. This is because the breakers will not trip when they should and pose a fire risk due to arcing between the terminals.

The size of your generator is going to be dependent on your needs. If you want your house to be fully powered during an outage a 16Kw generator or larger should provide enough power to keep your house running. But if you need just the necessities or have specific medical needs you can use a 7Kw generator to operate a combination of a sump pump, refrigerator, garage doors, and some other dedicated outlets or devices.

My wife and I moved into our new house on Main Street Saturday. Monday night some boiler sensors went out on our radiators. Long story short our whole house started to leak from basement to 3rd floor. Their emergency services were ready to take our call at 9:30 at night. Jason walked us through how to shut off the boiler and step by step to keep further damage from happening.Fast forward to next morning less than 12 hours after the initial call took place Zimmerman’s had a technician in route to come take a look. Justin greeted us with a friendly smile and was master class in knowledge of our boiler and issues taking place. After a short time he discovered the reason for our problems. Soon enough we had a quote to fix our boiler. Not ready to jump ship and push our emergency to another day he asked if he could fix the boiler now. Justin worked for 2-3 hours until the boiler was up and running. Testing it multiple times to ensure it was functioning properly.Did I mention this all went down on 12/22 and 12/23 right before Christmas. I can’t thank Zimmerman’s enough for saving our holiday season and making us feel safe in our new home!

We highly recommend Zimmerman Plumbing and Heating in Mechanicsburg. We use them for all our heating & cooling needs. We got a new oil furnace several years ago. They had 3-4 levels of pricing. They’re not cheap, but their workmanship and Service is top-notch – the best I’ve ever come across in all my years. We have met Earnie Zimmerman personally. His guys are professional, super nice and trustworthy. We also used them for air conditioning splits in our house a few years ago- can’t recommend them enough.

Highly recommend!! They sent a plumber to my house for a sewer back-up in less than two hours of my call when they opened on Monday morning even though I was a new customer. I got a quote for a gas line to a new gas stove on Friday and some time over the weekend, we had a back up of water from a floor drain into our basement. Bill was thorough, helpful and knowledgeable and he and a second guy worked really hard to resolve the problem. I am so grateful for their service. They also installed the new gas line when they were done with the sewer problem. I’m a customer for life!

We recently had a very disappointing experience with the service company assigned by our home warranty provider. Upon arrival, the technician insisted our air conditioning unit had not been cleaned and refused to proceed with service until it was. They even offered to clean it themselves for $350 on the spot.Since we had EZimmerman clean the unit back in May, we immediately contacted them to clarify the situation. They responded with exceptional professionalism and understanding, and within two hours, they sent a technician to reservice the unit. As we expected, the unit was not as dirty as the other company had claimed. Nevertheless, EZimmerman recleaned it thoroughly, treating us with the same courtesy and expertise we’ve come to appreciate from their team. They did not charge us for the additional service, and their responsiveness and integrity truly stood out.We continue to be impressed by the quality of work and customer care at EZimmerman, and I will wholeheartedly recommend them for any plumbing, heating, or air conditioning needs.

I recently had a mini split system installed by Zimmerman’s and was very satisfied with the service I received. The communication was excellent and they thoroughly prepared for and executed the job. The team coordinated perfectly with one another and communicated every facet of the install and usage of the units to me. It was a pleasure meeting Earnie and his team throughout this process and I am extremely grateful for the level of service that I received throughout each phase of the process. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to have work done on their homes and I will be happily working with them again in the future.

First experience with Zimmerman, but it will not be our last. We had an electric problem, which we thought was not a danger. Although we called on a Saturday, Jayson arranged for Nick to come that day. Nick diagnosed the problem and fixed it. As we understand it, our issue was potentially dangerous. Thanks again for the wonderful service.
