Take Advantage of Tax Credits Before they End

Don’t leave money on the table; tax credits are available on qualifying high-efficient heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, electrical panels and water heaters.

Homeowners will soon be ineligible to take advantage of tax incentives for energy efficient upgrades to their homes. Changes made by the federal government are slated to eliminate the Energy-Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) and the Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) at the end of 2025.

The discontinuation of the Energy-Efficient Home Improvement Credit ends the tax benefits for the replacement or installation of HVAC systems, electrical panels, and hot water heaters. Most notably, up to 30% or a maximum of $2,000 of the installation cost for qualifying heat pump systems and electric heat pump water heaters. Additionally, $600 for qualifying air conditioners, gas furnaces, boilers, electrical panels and gas tankless water heaters. Some other home improvements include windows, doors and insulation.

As for the Residential Clean Energy Credit, this ends the 30% tax credit for the installation of new and replacement geothermal heat pump systems. This also affects renewable energy installations such as solar, wind, and battery storage systems.

A tax professional regarding your specific situation is the best contact for questions related to your eligibility. All equipment we’ve already installed has detailed energy efficiency ratings included and has been kept on file for future reference.

This is by no means an entire list of changes nor do we know what additional changes may occur. What we do know is that if you have been planning an energy-efficient home improvement project and you can take advantage of a tax credit – it’s a great time to get it done before these incentives are gone.
